Celebrity clothing line

Sorry for the lack of updates but this is going to be a long one so you suggest you can a drink while reading this. The Miley Cyrus clothing or fashion line has been launched so I guess you can already buy the tees, belts, bras, shoes, skirts, blouses, hairbands and other accessories at places such as Walmart. What I am interested to know how are the sales doing. Unfortunately, I have no idea how so I am going to give an estimate based on the search volume I have for this blog. Assuming that people who wants to buy this clothing line will search for it, I think my search volume will be a good proxy.

So far, I have gotten about 30-40 visitors per day based on the following top 5 keywords that lead to my site:

miley cyrus clothes line
miley cyrus fashion line

For these terms, I am ranking about position 7-5 on Google's top page, depending on which term you are searching for. This means I only getting about 5% of the total search daily. If I were to occupy the top position in G**gle. this means the total search will be around (30/5%=600) people daily. In a month, this will be around 1,800. That is a small number when compared to the typical sales volume of a clothing line. Of course, not all people who buy will bother to search but I believe search can be a good proxy . Hence, I am not optimistic about the sales figures.

One reason I think is that her fans don't real care about what she is wearing. Maybe a small group of hardcore fan does but not the majority. This is why the interest is so low. When you look at the number of searches for things like miley cyrus nip slip, or miley cyrus images, they are far greater than the search volume for her clothing line. That is an indication to me that not many fans are crazy for what she wear.

That being said, I hope the end of the year will bring some change. In fact, there are two thing that I think can bring the sales level up. One is the launch of her miley cyrus winter wear. I think this new line of items such as coats, jackets, ear muffles, long stocklings, gloves etc might spur more interest. Second, there might be some form of sales by Walmart for her clothes towards the festival season. With the lowering of the prices, fans who are on budget might spend the money to buy these clothes. That is why I believe that the sale season will lead to more revenue.

Actually, the true intent of this post is to talk about a general trend on celebrity clothing line. Now, it seems like more and more artisits, actress, singers, celebrities are pushing for their own clothes. I want to cite a cases here to show my point.

Victoria Beckham has already her own clothing line, with some moderate level of success as many celebrities are seen wearing her VB line including Carol Vorderman, Jennifer Lopez, Claudia Schiffer, Elle Macpherson and Brooke Shields. Recently, she is expanding her line to include handbags and shoes. In fact, her husband, David Beckham, has already Doffered to build a design workshop for his wife at their Hertfordshire home.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen clothing line has already recently been announced. From the press releases, it seem like the Twins are focusing on travel related to sportswear for their line, which has been called the Olsenboye, with each collection highlighting a new city. This collection is due in 2010 and includes more sporty pieces such as cropped blazers, jean leggings, T-shirts, knitted jumpers, hooded sweatshirts, bags and footwear. This is not the first time the Olsen twins are venturing into the fashion industry as they have manged to do some work on the luxury label the Row and the Elizabeth and James collection.

Now, don't think only the ladies are launching clothing line. Here is news that Rolling Stones' Ronnie Wood clothing line has been launched in a new range of clothing and accessories for high end department store Liberty. This men fashion line is geared towards the causal group with printed Tees and jeans. The designs on these pieces are based on the Rolling Stone's paintings. If you live in London, you can also buy these pieces at Harrods as well.
